...is that quite it? I mean prosperity!

I know I haven't quite delivered on promises but it's been proper crazy in terms of uni work and stuff (yeah, I am a student). So I'm guessing that my blogging is not going to be as frequent as I desire. As for who exactly I am, I guess that will keep on coming as and when I keep on blogging. The first of what will hopefully be a series of thoughts on various issues is on arguably one of the most pursued things in the human race. Yeah, you guessed right...PROSPERITY. I am not gonna try and give a philosophical or theological definition of prosperity coz I know I would fail miserably. My aim is to simply share what I believe is a revelation from the word of God. The thirty ninth chapter of the first book of the Bible simply begins as follows;

"The LORD was with Joseph and he prospered, and he lived in the house of his Egyptian master. 3 When his master saw that the LORD was with him and that the LORD gave him success in everything he did, 4Joseph found favor in his eyes and became his attendant. Potiphar puthim in charge of his household, and he entrusted to his care everythinghe owned. 5 From the time heput him in charge of his household and of all that he owned, the LORDblessed the household of the Egyptian because of Joseph. The blessingof the LORD was on everything Potiphar had, both in the house and inthe field. 6 So he left inJoseph's care everything he had; with Joseph in charge, he did notconcern himself with anything except the food he ate.
Now Joseph was well-built and handsome..."

The interesting thing is that, Joseph is a slave but the Bible talks about him being prospered by the Lord. In the world's view that doesn't quite add up. I mean removing the fact that the world measures prosperity in terms of material wealth, it still doesn’t add up coz the guy is a slave for goodness sake. He aint free, he does what another man wants and commands. We term that prosperity? Well the Bible seems to suggest that but I wanna point out a revelation from this. I believe that the key to Joseph being prospered is in the same sentence..."The Lord was with Joseph". What I am essentially saying is that my new definition of prosperity is being with God or being in a situation where God is with you or whatever way one might wanna put it. As someone who's seen God as Jehovah Jireh in my life, I believe in provision and abundance of everything, material wealth included coz I believe that’s God's will. On the other hand, based on this revelation, I refuse to equate prosperity to having everything in your life with nothing lacking and nothing broken like people usually say coz I've seen an epitome of prosperity and that didn’t involve someone with everything in life. Oh no, I’m lying Joseph had everything, He had God's presence coz God is our everything...that’s what He implies in Exodus when He says "I AM THE I AM". He can be the peace we are looking for, the joy we desire to have, the material wealth we very much crave. One man once famously said “God doesn’t have peace, He doesn’t have joy, He doesn’t have grace, He doesn’t have mercy-He is all of that”. So Joseph had everything but not in the context of having emotional stability all the things we normally equate to prosperity. All these things are good and I believe they're our inheritance in Christ Jesus but they are not the things we should pursue, we gotta pursue the one who is everything and all these things come…Wow! That’s actually Matthew 6; 33. In any case, Joseph is surely blessed with many of these things, looks for example which even made Portiphar's wife lust after him. But isn’t it interesting that they're all mentioned after mentioning the most important thing?... "The Lord was with Joseph…" I’ll leave you to think about that one.
